Linux keeps the keyboard locked to root until a rule opens it.

The .deb, .rpm and Arch packages install the rule; replug the keyboard afterwards. For the AppImage or the browser, paste this and replug:

  && sudo udevadm control --reload-rules && sudo udevadm trigger

It writes one file and reloads the rules. Deleting the file undoes it. A rule from VIA, Vial or a vendor package may already cover your board; sharkfin shows this command when it finds a keyboard it cannot open.
